Thousand Fingers is an artist who originates from Turkey and is based in London. He has his Hide & Seek EP out on his very own Follow The Fingers imprint this week, a release that’s been hotly anticipated. Away from the studio, Thousand Fingers has performed across some of Europe’s most known clubbing venues including Studio 338, Ibiza Rocks, Kloster and Supper Club. In our Artist Spotlight interview we get to know the man behind the alias discussing what London parties are hot right now as well as his favourite spots for record shopping and more..
How are you, what’s good and bad in your world?
Cheers mate, all good. With the pandemic fading away, things are lookıng much more promising.
What is hot in London right now, which parties are on your radar?
Haha, every weekend is kind of hot and it is heating up … Lately, I have been looking forward to Maceo Plex Night with Boneca at Porchester Hall and there are a couple of other parties on the line from various promoters. To be fair, I really missed being out in the crowd.
Where do you like to do your record shopping?
I am more of a person who appreciates technological advancements. If you are asking about dance records, I am using the well known platforms for digging. Meanwhile, I am quite excited about new releases in spatial audio with Dolby Atmos. You can only listen to them on dedicated headphones or systems. If you remember Virtual Barber Shop or Match Box … quite resembles that feeling but the production methodology is different.
Does the city and its vibe, architecture, mentality influence the music you make?
Yes, these impact my life. As I’ve been telling in my other interviews, my creativity feeds from my life experiences and I’ve been through a lot since the beginning of 2020. My life happens here ın London, so, yes, the vibe of the cıty is huge. Every release is a different story …
What else gives you inspiration? anything outside of music?
It is mainly outside of music. I just transfer them into music.
What’s the aim with your label – what music do you look to put out?
The aim is to break the scene … Joke aside, I do support hybrid genre music. Instead of being part of publicly agreed sonic contexts, they shape their own universes and sound exactly like their creators’ thoughts. Follow The Fingers is after emotionally pure music that is easily relatable – the music has no borders.
How do you judge success, is it by sales, high profile support, or do you only care about you liking the music?
In my terms, success is permanence in the scene. Today, it is so hard for an artist to maintain their presence with their music. They end up selling a dream, lifestyle, or you name it – fitting themselves into a pattern and ending up in repetition, which I see as the worst thing that could happen to a creative person. Yes, I do only care about music – regardless of names and brands.
How do you evolve the sound of a label while staying true to the OG sound and not jumping on new hype bandwagons?
Well … no music is superior to another form of music. I see no point in separating my brand from the global flow. It is going to be changing as the scene changes. However, If you are asking for originality, it comes from staying true to my record label’s nature. We will keep finding and supporting emotionally pure sounds on our releases.
What else is in the pipeline?
I’ve scheduled a new release, Into The Mist, for the beginning of March. It has some influences from Scandinavian heritage. Also, A-ta is working on another release at the moment and I am still digging for new artists for the coming months.
